Colin Snowdon

I was cycle touring in June of this year and met Colin in Williams Lake. We were both looking for a room and decided the other person was a safe enough bet. We shared a few stories, beers and laughs that night. We got along well and wished we were going the same direction but he was heading north to Alaska and I south back to my home in Nelson, BC.

Colin had quit his job and was taking two years off to ride from Vancouver to AK and back to Vancouver then down to San Diego. From there, New Zealand, Australia and then work his way back to England. If you read his blog, you will see what a positive person he was and how he could make the most uncomfortable situations (rain, mosquitoes...) sound appealing.

The last time I heard from him, he was on Vancouver Island and planning on meeting his best friend from England, in Vancouver. They were going to travel around BC and Alberta for a week and possibly pay a visit on the way back to Vancouver. I realized I never heard back and just earned he died of a heart attack on Sept 11. I guess the reason I am saying all this is because I really feel he encompassed what bike touring is all about. He was an incredibly special and gifted person. I hope you take the time to read some of his journals and learn what an impact he had on those he met along the way.

I clicked into your link and was drawn into the journey of a lifetime. I don't know the circumstances of Colin's death, but from his journals he knew that he had been rewarded with the best that life offers. It's no wonder he had such an impact on people. Sorry for your loss, and for his family.
