vintage 520 price???
What would be a good price for a 1986 Trek 520 Cirrus with all the orig. components (5-speed, 600 gruppo, w/ Biopace)? It does have shorter chainstays and short reach caliper brakes, so in that regard it isn't ideal. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

OK, let me be more specific. It's one that I might buy. The seller is asking $250. That seems high for a 30 year old non-collectable Trek. It was only $450 new and modern ones can be had for a little over a grand. Most plain old riders from that vintage seem to sell for anything from $10 to $150 depending on where you happen onto them. Anyone have any experience buying or selling one like this? Thanks!

Two years ago I bought an '85 620 on ebay for $149 with a mix of original components and a few inappropriate replacements. Overall, it's a MUCH better touring bike, though I had to replace some parts and replaced a few others as well for modern gearing. So that's WAY more than I'd pay for an old 520. It comes down to how desperate you are, how good the condition is, how well it fits and how well it meets your needs.

I'm not desperate at all. I have a well built LHT. It just came up locally, it's cool and I for some reason, I think I need it <g>.

Offer whatever you think is fair. If it's in superb condition, $250 might not be TERRIBLE. Especially if you have the money to spend and it's the right size.

I told him to e-mail me if it doesn't sell. I think $150 would be about my tops as it's in good shape. Thanks for all the input!

lol...I think some of you guys are going to be surprised how many people are interested in vintage touring bikes!
Here's an '85 520 Trek frameset (w/o the cantis) that went for $122.50 plus shipping. I think that's relatively cheap.

Of course, you could search for years and years and still not find a fully equiped touring bike like ricohman did.

Hey, it's cool you guys are getting a web site! I bought a Carradice for my LHT, but had I known about Acorn, it likely would have been my choice.
