Couchsurfing
Anyone else on here a member? apart from Tzou Han who I know.
If you are not could I recommend it to you, very useful not only for accommodation and showers etc, but also to meet local reidents of places you visit, not everyone wishes to host someone but are willing to meet for a drink and give other assistance.
When I am in the UK I find hosting is a great way to meet other travellers and share their experiences, and to offer local knowledge. Not all couchsurfers are cyclists , like warmshowers, so there is a wide range of visitors.
Now I am travelling and being a guest, with some amazing people in OZ, I have been astonished at the generosity and kindness offered to me, I have learnt so much from my hosts. And once again I have met a wide spectrum of Australian society from experience world travellers to housewives.

I see from your profile you are in the UK, CS is a great way to meet locals.
Maybe join groups for the locale, eg Europe, Uk etc
See if there are any meetings happening near where you are. I went to a meeting in Melbourne where there were about 50 people, and so I made a few contacts in just one night.

I am a member, but have never used it. We used Warm Showers a lot on our last trip and it was GREAT! We will most likely use both Warm Showers and Couchsurfers on our upcoming journey. I'm not sure how members there are in South America though.

CouchSurfing
CS has been good to me in the US, even when I can't predict where I'll be three days from now. I find it easier than SERVAS, Global Freeloaders, Hospitality Club, or Warm Showers.

So I hope everyone is a member of the cycling group on there too.
I have had an amazing time in Tasmania, including a few memorable occasions with Couchsurfing hosts.
Useful for local knowledge, find stuff I had lost/misplaced, etc etc
