Belize - Temple to Temple

Anyone here ever do it?

Can it be done with a road bike?
Most of the pictures I've seen, everyone was on a MTB, but you really can't see the condition of the roads.

I was in Belize 2 years ago, in February, although not to do the temple tour. Most places I stayed had a fixie bike to use. One notable location was near Hopkins where an ex social worker from NYC "Tricia the Healer" had a place with bikes with the cost of a room - US $22.50 US per night with overhead fan. Elvis was her hired hand who was pretty good with bikes. I used her bikes all over the gravel/mud side roads and on a few main routes. Some other locales had single speeds for US $5.00 all day - dawn to whenever.
