Northern Tier and Asbestos in Libby MT

I've been reading some frightening stories about the asbestos levels in Libby MT and what the
EPA is doing to help the people there. Libby is right on the Northern Tier route and I wondered
if anyone has considered riding to the south to avoid Libby?

Short-term exposure to asbestos is unlikely to cause any health problems. You're better off worrying about those crazy montana drivers.

Guess I would have to agree with buddha, if this is the kind of thing you are worrying about you need to change your focus.

can't imagine it's any worse than following a diesel bus in traffic.

If Libby worries you just take the 508 North into the Yaak for a 150 mile detour with mountains, grizzlies and great vistas with each climb leading to Lake Koocanusa then Rexford and Eureka on Hwy 93 then on to Whitefish.

You won't run into any problems ridging through Libby, a very pretty little town with some terrific people. Every year my wife and I ride the STOKR, a two day ride that starts and ends in Libby. We overnight there, eat there and recreate there. The asbestos problem is only affecting those who live there and mostly those who have worked with the Vermiculite, which contains the asbestos. The EPA has spent huge wads of money cleaning, decontaminating and trying to make whole the town of Libby.

Plan your course and ride through Libby. No problems!
