New Brooks Saddle vs. Old Seat Post

Hi all,

Looking for a little advice here. I just got a B17 so I can begin to break it in before some shorter tours this summer. When I tried to fit the seatpost clamps around the rails on the brooks, it looked like the grooves in the clamp were just a bit too far apart, and I didn't want to try to manhandle the thing into submission.

So. Any suggestions on an inexpensive seatpost that will accommodate a B17?

The saddle rails are made of steel, and they'll easily bend enough to fit your post clamp with a little effort.

Many saddle/post combos are this way. In fact, despite common tolerances <0.1 mm, many precision bike parts need a little encouragement to be made to fit.

How much do you think those saddle rails will bend when you're sitting on the saddle, and hit a bump?

Good question. I'm a clyde, so I hesitate to bend the rails to fit the clamp for fear of precipitating an early demise for the saddle. I'm thinking of heading back into the shop today to do some more troubleshooting--double-checking to make sure the rails on mine didn't come bent. Thanks for the response!

I'm a clyde too, just go for it, the rails will moce and seat nicely.
