Italy cycling suggestion solicited for one month stay next year

Can anyone suggest considerations for a one month stay in Italy next year. How do you find a home for 6 people and where would you go and what time of year? Should we split our stay in two different locations of stay in one spot. We were considering mid may to mid June but would also consider Sept. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Curt Wally

An amazing area offf the usual tourist route is my parents home town in Lazio.
I spent a month there doing day trips. Lots of scenery; history etc.
Check out this page for details of my trip.https://www.geocities.com/pathebikeguy/italylazio

Check out the lake region. It's wonderful.

Stays for 6 people all in one place kind of rules out B&Bs. You will have to stick to some of the larger towns and go with hostels or hotels.

Camping is always an option.

September is rainy in northern Italy but it will be coolest of the months and will have the least tourists. Early June would probably be the best. July hot! August way too hot and many Italians take their vacation during this month so a lot of the smaller businesses will be shut down.

Here is a very useful site

www.enit.it

The first thing to do when you roll into town is to find the I.A.T. or A.P.T. , some offices are very helpful, others will barely lift a finger but most will help you find a place to stay even if they just throw a book at you.

I recommend finding a vacation house near Lago Maggiore. You can go on an overnight trip from there to
Milano. You can go on many day trips from there, what ever terrain you prefer - climbing, flat, rolling,
open countryside, forrest shaded back roads along the Ticino River. Make a side trip into Switzerland.
Ride a ferry across the lake, then cycle back around the lake.

Search for an agriturismo. They're working farms which have setup kind of B&B's. They tend to be on
the edge of small towns, or out in the country, excellent for coming and going by bike, as opposed to
being in a city.

May or June is the time to go. Though I'd be tempted to go at a time when you could make a side trip to
see a stage of the Giro, or le Tour.

Post the details and let us know, you may find there are others who'll join you.

Bon viaggio!

May-June or September are all good from the climate perspective, but in September the days are shorter.

Here is a page with 15 links to information about bike touring in Italy. Several of them discuss routes and others provide useful details about Italy.
