East Asia Touring Guide?

Hi all, I am joining the Peace Corps this January and would like to do some touring while I am at it! I dont know exactly where I will be sent but it can be anywhere from Mongolia to Cambodia with just about anything in between. I already have the adveture cyclist handbook that has a small chapter on Asia but I am looking for something more significant with better route guides... any suggestions? Am I insane for doing this? I figure ill speak Mandarin pretty well after 2 years and then id like to do at least 6 months of traveling with my $6,000 reintegration fee they give me after the program is complete. I love the idea of not using a dime of it in the US and spending it all on traveling more! What does everyone think? Maybe i could take the silk road and go to Europe? I just decided to do this so any interesting suggestions are very welcome!!!!!!

On this site, there are very few bike touring ideas that seem "insane." Go for it, I'm sure your Peace Corp and language experience will make the adventure all the more interesting.

This page has 7 links to information about bike touring in China.

The archive has information on other Asian countries, as well, but I don't want to list links to all of them. Visit and check it out for yourself.

This fellow's amazing Asia Europe tour is quite extensive, the better part of 3 years. Time is my enemy, so I'm just doing the legs that I fancy
