How nice should your components be for touring?

105/Tiagra level minimal? Cranksets? Drivetrain? Wheels?

in my opinion, they should be the most durable component you can get, but definitely not the most expensive. alot of times, higher level parts are designed to be lighter and perform better at the cost of some durability, they are also expensive to replace if they fail while on the road. 105 level is good, as it is built to last and perform. some parts can be even a little cheaper, as there is not much difference in say, an entry level or a tiagra level chainring...

ps: where in BC are you located? i just flew into vancouver from mexico to do some touring around the okanagan...
