One of the quirks of a forum like this is in the closeness of usernames. The RichardCranium on this thread is not the same Richard Cranium that posts elsewhere in places like Long Distance.

There is some similarity in posting style, but intellectually, I think I'd opt for the latter one.

Sorry to hear that Tim and Cindie. But considering the posts of some small minded people, I understand.

Of course here is a recent example of nearly the exact same situation and how to handle it gracefully and remain part of the forum.

Some people play well with others and some don't....

Hmm, new poster, and its first post is defending folks who left on a Huffy, err, in a huff. Sockpuppet or meatpuppet, folks?

Sorry to add another post, but reading from afar, the problem seems to be that they don't contribute at other times ie: they only post to promote themselves and their book. If we'd seen a couple of posts such as "avoid this town at all costs", or even "great coffee at such and such" prior, I doubt they would have received such vitriolic responses.

Regards, Mark.

I feel embarrased to be a member of this forum. This is not the way to treat people. I find many of the remarks made in this thead crude and rude. I enjoy - as many do - the crazyguy website and to a lesser extent Cindie and Tim's. I see no reason to be so negative within the community. One can disagree with being either rude or crude.

I must have missed the alleged negative comments about Crazyguy. What post numbers were they?

I'm in awe at my fellow Neil's response to the recently departed on Crazy Guy. He's claimed it's "stupid", but it seems to hit the nail on the head.

***********
Ok, so let's see what we've learned here:

1. Tim and Cindie are tiny little helpless kittens on the internet, meow
2. They innocently posted spam across multiple message boards with links back to their own website
3. The happy shiny people on other website forums were kind to Tim and Cindie, purrr
4. Oh no! The big bad meanie trolls at crazyguyonabike were not so kind and made the kittens cry
5. Little kittens scampered back to the safe well lit neighborhoods, vowing never again to venture into such dangerous places
6. The trolls at crazyguyonabike laughed cruelly and partied like the craven heathens they are, and danced and frolicked by the light of the full moon as they worshipped their strange and terrible gods by firelight.

Sorry, I just was trying to make some sense of your post. This is pretty much the only approach that makes me feel better about the crappy, mean, dangerous website that I seem to have spawned.

I mean, how could we??? Everybody loves kittens.

Ran into Tim and Cindy at Ft. Stevens SP near Astoria, Oregon a few days ago. Seemed to be pretty ordinary folks. Didn't seem to have any special insights into life, the road, etc. They prefer a life of nomadism. Whatever. Personally, I prefer a physical community with long-term relationships rooted in a physical place. I'm sure their books must appeal to somebody, they've been at this long enough to erase all doubt that they understand marketing and self-promotion. They certainly do a bang-up job of viral marketing through their website, which they advertise prominently wherever they go, including stickers plastered all over their bike. More power to them in getting along in life however they please.

Interesting thread. First time I've visited here, and I find it hard to believe the animosity of some of the posters. Also, I can't remember...is it a Phd that vettefrc2000 is going for? He only mentioned it maybe 50 times, but I cannot remember.

Really? I counted three: cyclotourism, clay greene, and myself. Out of all the posters and posts, including thirty-odd posts by that historian guy (all in a row, thank-you very much), plus the Vette guy, who I might add is going for a Phd!, that's not many.

Considering the fact that these recent posts seem to have no purpose other than to keep the thread alive and the fact that the original post (and pretty much every post of Tim and Cindy's here or elsewhere that I have seen) was only a form of viral advertising for their web site and book, I would consider these first timer posts "fishy" at best. It would be nice if this thread could be deleted IMO, but I am not a moderator (if I were it would have been gone LONG ago).

These first time posts may not be sock puppet posts but I would be surprised if they weren't.

As noted, "cyclotourism" posted once, and only once, on Bike Forums. "dgu56" has only posted in this thread and some nonsense in Foo. Two of the Foo posts mock a critic of the departed spammers. Draw your own conclusions.

I'm sorry if a new poster is upset that I post to a topic that interests me.

Unbelievable. Looks like some people can dish the nastiness out, but cannot take it if someone calls them on it. The pomposity of some of these "senior" members, and some of these posters who blatantly bombard a thread with consecutive post after dull post is amazing.

Apparently, anybody who disagrees is "suspect."

The fact is, some of the posters on this forum show incredible bad taste and nastiness. These pompous asses, and they know who they are, seem to believe they represent the holy grail of righteous opinion. They are shocked should someone have the nerve to disagree.

As far as any "nonsense" I am accused of posting, historian, you are mistaken. I posted only on the neat little word association thread, linking "vette" to "Phd," the same as I would link "historian" to "dull."

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

I think this thread has outlived it's useful life. I'm closing it.
