Fast dry clothing

I'm planning a couple tour routes for later this summer (first time doing a multi day ride) and want supplies to fit within a backpack (e.g., limited supplies and a single outfit for the time when I'm off the bike). Because of this, the clothing I bring will need to dry quickly as it will be getting hand washed at night and put in the backpack in the morning.

Any recommendations for lightweight fast drying clothing?

Absolutely wonderful clothing. Wicks, dries quickly, comfortable, packs to nothing, lasts forever, cheap, and, most importantly, looks good!

Cheers,
Ian

See this thread, and my comments about shorts and underwear (post 10):

Wal-mart has athletic shirts call Active Works made from something call repreve material (some type of polyester weave) that is very inexpensive (about $8), wash well, and dries quickly (although not overnight as you desire, but an hour or so in the sun and it will be dry). I friend and I tried those shirts recently on a tour this month and found them to be the coolest feeling material we have tried. The sweat wicking property is excellent, and wearing the shirt is much cooler than going without a shirt on a sunny, humid day.

REI stores carries all kinds of quick drying clothes. From socks to underwear to shirts and shorts. Synthetic shirts and nylon will dry overnight while on tour. Windshorts was my normal clothing during non ride hours. Plus they are light to carry on the bike.

Thanks for the recommendations and ideas. Since I'll be traveling light I'll either be in a hostel or cheap hotel so I'm not too worried about the drying overnight issue as hostels often have facilities (or a fan) and I can hang clothing above the heater/AC if I go that route.

Lightweight MTB racing shoes dry out fast, but then you'll need another set of footwear to use when off the bike.

make sure to pay attention to the backpack as well. i've noticed that wearing a backpack for around 50 miles is my limit. after that, i start to notice a little chaffing. even with comfortable lightweight hiking backpacks. hopefully, this won't happen to you.
