I'm trying to fit some 40mm x 700c Berthoud fenders on my friend's LHT. The hardware provided for the attachment to the fork crown doesn't seem to work and the attachment to the brake bridge looks like it will be a DIY job as well. I figured somebody else here might have figured out some good mounting solutions so I thought I'd check and see.

Anyone with Berthouds on their LHT - what did you end up doing?

Peterwhite says zip ties for your brake bridge, not sure about the fork mount, maybe this?

Thanks that fork hardware may be just what I need. I've also considered cannibalizing the rubber under fork mount from a SKS Shockboard fender.

I was hoping to see what other cunning LHT owners have done, but at least I've got some ideas that will work if nothing better comes along.

I was missing some hardware to hook up my Planet Bike front fenders. In fact, the only thing I could rig up involved zip ties. Strange thing is that they are remarkably durable. I've had mine on for more than 6 months. When they do give out, I have about 300 replacement parts available, ready to go.

I'll use zipties if I must, but you really want to cry using zipties to attach lovely stainless steel fenders to your bike. I think I may have the problem licked:

Front:
- find a larger washer so I can use the stock hardware
- use the Velo Orange hardware Hocam linked to
- use the hardware from some SKS removable fenders

Rear:
- use hardware ["L" bracket] from another fender kit of DIY one from flat stock
- use zipties

The more I think about it the more options pop up. Thanks for your responses.

I used a larger washer in front, along with the normal install kit.

On the back, I used a small L-bracket from Home Depot. But if I'd known about the V-O kit, I probably would have tried that.

Can you provide a pic of the bike with fenders? I'm considering buying some and am wondering how they look on.

If nobody else does I will when I've completed the install. Might be a few days though..so far they look pretty nice on a cherry red LHT.

I got Anna's LHT nicely upgraded and took some better pics. See my blog post for more info. Thanks for the ideas on how to mount the fenders they got my creative juices flowing and I worked something out with what I had at hand.

What size fenders did you use? On what size tires?

The tires are Grand Bois 30mm 700c tires. The fenders are Berthoud 40mm 700c fenders. They fit together nicely with good coverage, but not too much extra width on the fender.
