Fargo?
No not the city the new bike by Salsa....I am getting into the market for a new tourer, if you can't tell by my last few threads, and now I find this. As more of a mountain biker who ride the road to commute and tour once or trice a year this might be it, I'll have to see it, but....And a 29er is just a 700C with fat tires, that's not really an issue.
What do ya all think?

i admire salsa for putting out a product like this. it is certainly not a mainstream appeal but should find some fans among the touring and commuting crews.

I was pleasantly surprised, too... That's the bike, or at least the frame/fork, I'm getting for my touring rig. May go with flat bars and SRAM gripshift though

Salsa is setting the suggested retail on the frame, fork, and seat post clamp at $650.00. A complete model spec’ed with a full XT drivetrain, bar end shifters on Salsa Bell Lap drop bars, Salsa Shaft seat post holding a WTB saddle, WTB Vulpines on Salsa Semi 36 hole rims, DT Competition spokes, brass nipples, Avd BB-7 brakes, Tektro levers, and Salsa CroMoto stem will set you back $2000.00 MSRP. Expected availability on the framesets is November 2008 The Fargo Completes will be out January/February of 2009.

It would be nice, however, to have the option of disc or nondisc, STI or barend. Overall not bad but one more option would have been nice.

The geometry is ugly as hell (I hate sloping top tubes), but the concept is nice. You can't have enough bottle cages!

Instead of three bottle cages in the frame, there should be enough clearance for two cages for 1.5L bottles.

This is the first bike to get me excited in some time. Those who like Sherpa's and LHT for gravel roads like those in Alaska, TCT etc should be giddy. Much less $ than Gunnar Rocktour or Tout Terrrains at Pete White's site.
Just watch "Long Way Round" mongolia section and you'll see where this kinda bike would be beautiful. Here in BC we've got lots of deactivated logging roads that can help this bike access the alpine meadows and beyond. I'll stop now as I don't want to create so much buzz that I can't get my own!
