Biking NYC to Burlington, VT
Hey Y'all! I have a few questions about an upcoming tour for anyone that might know.
1. Has anyone biked from NYC to New Paltz, NY and if so, is the 9W to 299 W a good option?
2. Any good lodging (cheap and unique being high priorities) suggestions?
Thanks!

If you decide to come towards the Springfield MA area let me know.
I have ridden to NYC from here and have cues to send if necessary.
Keep in mind IF you get on Vt RT5 it can be very hilly.

For bike routes from NYC to Burlington Vermont, I'd suggest getting the New York State bike maps to get you up the Hudson, and then plan on picking up the Lake Champlain Bikeway.

biking 1-87
anyone know anything about biking a stretch on the I-87 NY thruway? My tour to Burlington route map has us on that for 15 miles on the way from New Paltz, NY to Great Barrington, Mass. Is this legal/safe?

No it's not legal and you will kill yourself if you try.

I rode up to Burlington from NYC last summer, you definitely don't need to ride on any highways. I don't remember our exact route, but we basically followed the NY state 9 bike route. Here is a link:

You can take NY Bike Route 9 all the way up. I think you can take a ferry across Lake Champlain from Port Kent to Burlington.

If you follow Bike Route 9, I'd advise crossing into Vermont sooner rather than later. The western shoreline of Lake Champlain has some mean climbs and descents.
