What sunglasses do you wear?

I went into a new high-end bike shop in the neighborhood where I live. They had lots of new, expensive stuff. I tried on a pair of Oakley sunglasses with lenses that darkened in the sun. They were nice but at $180, I figured I'd stick with what I have.

I use an old pair of sunglasses that have large lenses and keeps the sun and wind out of my eyes when I ride but looks a bit dated and dorky.

What do you use?

I wear a pair I bought at Target. They look like typical cycling glasses that keep the sun and wind out of my eyes. They were very inexpensive but have served me very well. I found them in the generic sunglasses department, not in the sports section.

Oakley Radar or Action Optics Guides Choice. Radars when I'll be sweating a lot. They don't have a botton rim so sweat just runs off. Guides Choice when I'm just riding around town.

I have used various Oakley sunglasses for the past 10 years+. The great optics alone are worth it - although I buy from the lower end of their price range with good results. What really sold me on Oakleys is being able to buy replacement parts for a 6year pair of sun glasses on their website.

Oakley trickles down their technology so you can buy from the less expensive end of their product line and still get great sunglasses.

As a note I am one of those people who can keep a pair of sunglasses in decent shape for 5 years+ so investing $150 for a pair isn't very expensive when you amortize it over the life of the product. I have friends that are lucky if they still have a pair of sunglasses after a month - if I was them I wouldn't drop very much on a pair as they won't be around very long.

I don't wear sunglasses.

Well, that's not entirely true. I do have a pair of prescription sunglasses which I wear on the odd occasion if the sun happens to be particularly intense. I often forget I have them.

...just my 2 cents...

I wear a Bolle Microedge (attached). Fantastic lenses/optics and fit. I like to stay away from cheap sunglasses as the materials are lower-end and the UV blocks and filters aren't up to par. Their shields aren't perscriptionable, but a lot of their wraps are. www.bolle.com if you're interested.

I have a pair of Rydar (sp?) and Smith glasses, both with interchangeable lenses. I wear clear in the winter (and at night), gray/black in the sun. My eyes get dried out too quickly, I have to wear something, so the interchangeable ones are necessary if I want to commute on short days. I also have cheap sunglasses that I wear in the summer. I would use only cheap sunglasses if it weren't for the dry-eye issue. And, I misplace things too much to buy something more expensive (Oakley, for example).

Silver or Blue construction grade from Lowe's or Home Depot. I have a couple of them around the house. The ones that get worn are the first I find, except when I ride at night, then wear a pair of clear acrylics. I wear contacts, so I don't want junk in my eyes.....

I forgot the nicer Tifosi sunglasses with 3 pair of interchangeable lenses - one dark, one yellow, and one clear. I keep these for night riding with the clear lenses always in them.

Easy. Solar Shields. They're polarized and block 100% UV. Plus, they're cheap - usually $20 or less (sometimes Long's Drugs has a 2 for 1 sale). They fit on top of regular glasses so you don't have to worry about loosing or breaking an expensive pair of prescription sun glasses. Why pay more?

Optic Nerve Red Hawks with prescription inserts. Having 4 surfaces to fog up is a hassle, but otherwise I like them. I have only my distance prescription in them, but will go the bifocal route next time.

I have a pair of Bolle sunglasses with interchangeable lenses. They're functional.

Consider getting sunglasses with an open frame if you're using them for cycling. I find that closed frames hinder my visibility, especially when I'm glancing over my shoulder to see what's behind me.

Can anyone recommend a glue to use for replacement rubber nose pieces for the Bolle Parole?

I've been wearing these since I was a ski bum in the early 80's. Great optics and glass lenses. And I make em look good!

We both need prescription lenses so we can't just go out and get a cheap pair. We wear our sunnies every day though to keep dirt, grit and bugs out of our eyes, not to mention UV! They're worth the investment. I have Oakleys (managed to negotiate a good deal on them before we left London) and Andrew has a pair from Optilabs, which are considerably less than the Oakleys. He loves them.

Try "Shoe goo". It worked fine repairing the nose piece on my Julbo glasses. I had tried silicone first, but that didn't work for too long. -Or- try getting a replacement pair, apparently Julbo would have been happy to fix mine up, but it really didn't seem worth it.

I use: Julbo Advance Glacier Glasses. Pretty danged good! The lenses are still perfect, even after daily use on my year tour (and near daily since). Including riding through some nasty nasty dusty areas-near zero visibility.

I also use a strap/retainer, croakie brand I think-neoprene. Handy.

-You might be able to buy prescription sunglasses very cheap while your on the road. A friend bought a pair in Nepal for ~20$US equivelent.

May be worthwhile to have a backup.
