Repairing a Carradice Pannier
Have any of you repaired your Carradice panniers? I have a set of "Super C's", and I've managed to wear a hole into the right hand corner of one of the front panniers. I don't know if I should try to sew it, patch it from the inside or from the outside using a tent patch kit or...?
I'd like to nip this in the bud to keep moisture out and to keep it from getting bigger. Any suggestions? http://fb.esnips.com/doc/f1ce6704-7f...92180/PA130001 http://fb.esnips.com/doc/f1ce6704-7f...92180/PA130001 |
Use a couple of canvas patches. One on the inside and another on the outside. I'd double (or triple) stitch it and then coat everything with cotton duck wax dressing: paying more attention to the seams. I also like to stitch across the doubled patches, thus putting less strain on the structural (outer) stitches.

Thanks. Are there special patches available or should I try to find some canvas of a similar thickness?

I'd just use canvas of a similar thickness. I've never looked for any special kind, but it may be available.

I would contact Carradice and see what they say. They have a lifetime warranty against "defects". I doubt they consider that a defect, but you won't know unless you ask.

Carradice have sold me a patch kit. I'm going to give that a try. If the patches come off, I'll try sewing some on as some of you have recommended.
