2009 LHT Available When?

For those who've followed Surlys a while, when will the next round of LHTs be available from Surly? I.e., when could I walk into the LBS, order an LHT my size (complete bike), and have it delivered within a week or two? The major manufacturers are shipping '09s now, I think. Is Surly a January thing? Spring?

iamarobotman 10-13-08 08:19 PM

I was in my Local Bike Store today and they said they become available December 15th (12/15). Seems a bit away since I want to start touring pronto. I wish Surly would make more frames this go around. They always seem to underestimate their demand.

NCC has the 2008's still in stock at $989.00. 54, 56 in green that
I know of. Not sure of other sizes.
I just got my LHT green 54 delivered last week.

Sometimes I wounder if they don't do this to keep demand higher.

Bacciagalupe 10-13-08 08:29 PM

Hard to say with the LHT's -- they're frequently out of stock, so even when they're in full swing it can be hard to get one quickly. That's one of the reasons I went with a Cross Check instead. ;) Not really sure of the cause. See if your LBS can pre-order one for you.

QBP has most sizes still in stock. If you are looking for an '09 frame only, the green is estimated 2/23/09, whereas the truckaccino is estimated to arrive 12/15/08. Full bikes are both estimated to be available December 15th.

At the beginning of 2008 they rolled out with the olive green two months (end of April) after I was originally told they were going to come out at the end of February. It was a long two months because I was given the choice to get another utility blue but chose to wait, and wait, and wait for the olive.

Do you have a link? I really want to find a 56cm green complete!

the surly blog says something about new drop-outs for the crosscheck and the LHT. I'm waiting to buy an LHT till they're unveiled. if its the longer style like whats on the cross check now, thats such a deal breaker for me. easier hub gearing, single speed, whatever. in fact i really don't see the point of vertical dropout's on the LHT, especially when surly is all about versatility. anyone have an inside track on this? ;)

It won't work for you. QBP is a bicycle shop supplier that handles Surly bikes. Unless you have an account and password, you won't see the page. A lot of bicycle shops use QBP, check with your LBS and see if they can order it.

I just checked, you are out of luck, 56cm bikes are out of stock. It looks like they only have 42,46, 52, 60 and 62cm left. If you only need the frame, they have all sizes except 54 and 56 cm.

iamarobotman 10-14-08 06:45 PM

Yeah I could go the "Buy the frame and build" way, but the price would be $1400.00 to build it up. That's more than the complete build direct from Surly. All the components would be the same too. I think I'll wait until December to purchase a complete for $990.00

I hope they release it sooner. I've got a tour planned in December!

Hofweber 10-15-08 12:04 AM

It won't be released sooner, the timing is spot on, or if anything later. Your LBS probably isn't a surly dealer, just has a QBP account and can order surlys. Surly dealers are given priority. I would look for it online if you want it before then.

If you can build up your own bike, you should be able to shop around for parts and put together a bike for very close to the complete bike price (I would guess $1100). I went with all top end stuff Deore XT, Chris King Headset, $105 tires, etc and was near $1700, but I also saw Deore LX or SLX for half the cost I was paying for the XT stuff. You just half to shop around for the good prices, particularly on eBay.

The new bikes wont be $990--the retail for 2009 is $1095.

This is quoted straight from an email directly from Surly when I asked them the same release date question.
I received the email 2 weeks ago.

So, the 2009 LHT will be available sometime in early 2009.

Just like every one of the 4 previous versions of the LHT (green red blue green)

bikeforums.net - the place for the 411 on everything bicycles....

The original sage green has been retired and will never be brought back again.

Joshua1234 10-15-08 06:21 PM

I would like to get a hold of a 54cm blue LHT. Does anyone know of a place that might have some in stock and be willing to deliver? I inquired to http://www.northcentralcyclery.com/ but have not gotten a response. If there is a place in Texas then I would be willing to pick it up but I think I have called everyone who might have one.

seeker....I just saw that. I don't mind so much about color. Seems like it could be a good deal.

Joshua1234 10-15-08 11:22 PM

My inseem is about 30 inches, should I think about a smaller bike? (under 54cm)

My dad said he was 5'10 so I thought I would be at least 5'11 but the guy at the bike shop said that everyone has there "man height" and that I was actually 5'8.7
