but other than this... What is stopping you ?
For me security of a job is not an issue, since i have no job security. I have been on (and off) one year contracts with no insurance and no benefits thoughout the 1990s and 2000s. Right now I am self employed and my boss is still an idiot!

Seriously, the ticking time bomb is health insurance. I earn enough trading stocks to pay my way easily...but to get a good health insurance, even though I am in good shape for my age yadda yadda...would really be prohibitive. I try and convince myself that by touring permanently would make me healthier and have fewer bone/spine/fitness problems as I age....but not 100% convincing yet.

I'd like to start with a counter clockwise perimeter tour of the US, finishing with the West Coast, then down to Tierra del Fuego. Then through Europe a country at a time, across the Middle East to Asia, through China and then along the Trans-Siberian railway back to Russia, then the Baltic states and down to Europe to finish up. Then I'll take a nap.

My dream tour involves, boats, trains, propellor planes, and of course lots of riding through the US, Canada, Russia, and Europe.

Key West to Nova Scotia, cross the country to San Diego, then up along the left coast to Vancouver and then Anchorage. Take a ship to Russia, then hop the Trans-Siberian railway to Moscow, then Greece, a ship to Israel, another ship to Spain, ride up through France to London, then a ship to Greenland, Iceland, and home. Rinse, repeat.

Prudhoe Bay, AK to Ushuaia, Argentina. Nothing but downhill Met someone doing this while biking across and he seems about done: https://anticompass.com

Maybe next year, maybe after I have a kid to join me, or a friend, but hopefully before I die.

Yowzers. Cool. Do ya plan on being a roadie for as long as ya can, or do ya have a horizon?

Thats how I got hooked on touring. In 1974 I met Bill Harlan, when he was on his nomadic tours around the USA. He later went on to Bikecentennial.

Rowan and I plan to travel (not entirely by bicycle, although bicycles will be a big part of it) until we get tired of it.

It won't likely be the type of tour where we're constantly packing up and moving on to the next town or wherever everyday ... more likely setting up headquarters in one spot for a while (few days, weeks, months, or whatever) then moving to the next spot.

Because we don't have unlimited resources, the itinerary and pace of the tour will depend on funds and where we can find work. With my teaching degree, it's entirely possible I could find work teaching somewhere for a few months ... or we could work as fruit pickers for a while ... or whatever comes along. We both have education and experience in a number of fields.

So we'll play it by ear and see how it goes.

Riding out my driveway in Tucson, and arriving ten days later at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon - just in time to see the bigtooth maple leaves turn in North Canyon.

Iceland, Japan, Switzerland and Austria probably top my list at the moment. My Scotland trip from last year has made me wonder about the rest of Europe.

As for what's stopping me, right now it's time and money. I have a major move planned for next year, so it's a balancing act between saving for that and touring right now, not to mention having recently spent a heap on some dental work that was overdue. That said, I'm off to New Zealand's North Island in a couple of weeks.

I don't really care WHERE I go - just as long as I'm doing it with my favorite boys in the world - my husband and two sons. So I guess I have to say I'm living my dream trip right now as we pedal from Alaska to Argentina. If we're still enjoying the journey once we get there, we'll figure out where we want to go and go there.

Hi,

I would first cycle over all major passes in the Alps then I would spent the winter in Italy and Greece. After that I would head up along the Danube Poland Finland to the North Cape. Down through Norway Sweden (and Great Britain). After that I would head over Lisbon to Marokko.
Then just follow more or lest the Coast to Cape Town. In Southern Africa I would cycle criss cross up (and down forget Madagaskar). Somehow I will reach Cairo (Any idea how get a Sahara crossing into that plan?). Then I would like to make a tour through Jordan / Israel / Syria. And after that loop via Saudi Arabia / Jemen / Oman to the Iran. From there to India. Then through Himalaya. Then another criss cross in Asia covering Russia / S. Korea / Japan / China. Then down via Indonesia and Papa Newguina to down under. A big loop around Australia with a bit New Zealand. Via Easter Islands to S. *******. Then roughly to Santiago. After that down to Ushuaia. Then heading north the Atlantic coast. A loop through the Amazonas Rain Forest back to Santiago. Then straight up to Mexico. From there a loop over the Caribian Islands ending again in Mexico. From there up to Alaska. Then criss cross through Canada / US and via Iceland back to Europe.

This will take at least 7 years may be 10 to 12. My bank account is .........

Hi

to be honest - the money for trip isn't a problem. But after such a trip I won't want to work and for that my savings aren't sufficient...

Spending as much time as I need to ride a connect-the-dots tour to all the capital cities of Europe, including ferries to Iceland, across the channel, across the Baltic and amongst the Greek Isles.
And in a few years, I MAY just be able to pull that off. (Shhhh, don't tell the wife yet. I have to spend more time applying the grease first.)

+1000

Depending on where your tour takes you it could be quite inexpensive. The problem for me is rejoining the real world again and finding a good job so i can save money to do it all over again!

Great. When I was on my world tour I had several teaching offers right as I was riding thru this place or that...usually in Asia, where intelligence is worshipped (not education, intelligence). So when I hit the road next time it also will be with no clear finish date, and i'll take what I get along the way as well.

Perhaps I don't dream large enough, but I kind of like what I do for work. Soooo, currently dreaming about Ireland and Scotland, and I'd love a weeklong circle around the island of Hawaii. Closer to home, Portland to Santa Barbara.

My "dream" tour is getting both of my kids through college and then riding my bike from my house to theirs, wherever that is. This presumes that they're not living at home, which is a critical part of my dream.

Leave my front door in the spring, ride to St Louis and visit family for a bit of R&R and then chase Lewis and Clark. Fly back and get ready for cyclocross season.

The perimeter of the US, starting in Boston around September and leisurely finishing back the next summer if I were to do it continuously, with the family in a luxury RV sag wagon. In the motorcycling world I have been informed that a perimeter ride is defined as to each of the farthest four towns at the corners of the country. My definition, however, is to stay within a specified distance of the border; I haven't decided if it will be 50 or 100 miles.

I'd like to follow the Rhine down to the Black Forest, then pick up the Danube and follow it to the Black Sea.
Or South America. I have a real itch to see South America.
