Special leather saddle

Sat I was at a vintage swap meet. While digging through a box of "stuff" I came across a black leather saddle. It looks just like my brooks B-17 except the rivets are smaller and stick up a little. Under frame looks identical, leather looks a bit thicker. There is a label on both sides that is an oval with SPECIAL in script with the words Fine leather, and made in japan. I picket is up for $15 and plan to put in an my mountain bike. Anyone know anything about these saddles?

Hard to say! Properly treated it might be a great saddle. Looks like it has a plastic bit on the inside underneath, which may interfere with applying proofide.

I have an early 80's leather saddle made in Japan (it's a Fujita Professional, probably made by Belt Saddle Co) that has held up very well. It was my only saddle for many years.

I thought there was a picture? There was a Japanese company called Speedic that made leather saddles. I have one on my Miyata 1000 and I pulled off a charity shop find. It has what looks like a fibreglass form on the underside of the saddle.
