Anyone use studded tires?
I was waiting for our Marathon Supremes to come in from backorder when I
decided to buy some studded tires for riding in the Wisconsin winters.
I Went for a ride yesterday and they feel really strange when riding on pavement but
really nice and grippy on the ice. I was really surprised when I rode up my ice rink of a driveway
at about 3 1/2 mph easily.
Pretty cool!

The biggest issue I had with studded tires back east wasn't a traction problem.
I had issues with snow/slush/ice build up, especially between the tire and fender.
The build ip was so bad it became impossible to ride after even a few miles, depending upon the conditions, and I'd stop and chip away. An inconvience mostly solved by increasing the clearance distance between tire and fender (some cutting, spacers, and bending was involved).

It seems like it would be better posted in the winter section, but I do have Nokian studs on my winter commuter. Great on ice, crappy in soft snow, which is what we have lots of right now.
They are slow and noisy on pavement so I can't imagine riding them on tour, although I did see somebody riding on the ice and snow covered shoulder of Highway 8 when I was coming back from cross country skiing at Bragg Creek last week.
