Surly nice rack 26/700 flexability vs Tubus 26 or 700
Hi,
I'm in the market for rear rack for my girlfriend bike.
She has a 700 wheels, but I think in the future it may be change to 26'' wheels (changing bike, or just switching wheels and lowering the standup hight).
Surly Nice Rack fits 700 or 26''
Tubus Cargo comes in 2 sizes - 700 or 26'' - Changing wheel size need to change the rack.
The Surly Nice Rack and the Tubus Cargo are expensive, and I don't want to buy again a rack just because of the wheel size change.
So this leads me to buy the Surly.
Is my logic correct, or there is some more to the equation?
Thanks,
Kfir

I run a 26" tubus on my Jamis Aurora with 700C wheels just fine. I think for most it will fit. I also run fenders and still have room. Check with the touring store and let him know what bike your using and you should get an answer as to if it will work or not. Keeps the weight a little lower also I think. I do not know how much higher the 700 size tubus is since I just went with the 26 to begin with based on Wayne's suggestion.

The tubus logo has a few nice features over the cargo, and only comes in one size. I use it on a 26, and it works great. Highly recommended. I am not a big fan of the surly racks since they are heavier, but not stronger.

I do think the Logo give a fair fight to the surly Nice Rack. I also like the low rider mounts for the panniers.
What I don't understand is why they manufacture 2 sizes of the same rack and in other racks they will have multi size? (Tubus Cargo vs. Tubus Logo)
Cheers,
Kfir

hello
I have the Tubus Vega mounted on my Surly LHT with 26" wheels. The rack sits high over the rear wheel but if you hang large panniers the rack seems to be at the ideal height.

Is the changes are negligible?

the lower rails of the logo are lower than the top of my 26 inch big apple tires. So, the lower rails on the logo are lower than the rails on the 26 inch version cargo. also, the top platform of the logo is flat all the way to the seatstays, so you can put weight on the platform, right under the seat (the cargo has a little ramp/hook thing that gets in the way. Finally, the logo bottom rails allow you to use the platform on top, and also open and close the lids on your panniers, which I like.
and 40Kg is 88 pounds. That is way more than you should make your lady carry in any situation! (seriously though, I carry a little pillow, and I have been known to offer up the rack on my bike to pretty girls that need a lift somewhere... so the rack can carry a lot more than 88 pounds pretty easily. )

$.02 for Logo,,,I bought a 26" Cargo for my 700c LHT according to thetouringstore.com recommendations and it sits fine with clearance for fenders on 700x35 tires. I had previously ordered a $45 Topeak with lower rails and it came in months after I got the Tubus. Turns out it's a better set-up with lower rails as panniers can be put on/off without conflicting with the rack bag I have.
The Tubus is very nice but if money is an issue check out the Topeak Super Tourist.
