Trailer touring on the train
April is around the corner, and I'm starting to make tour plan. One idea involves a 2-wheeled cargo trailer and a train trip. Has anyone tried getting a trailer on a train along with a bike?
I'm particularly interested in regional rail experiences. (Amtrak would presumably take a trailer as checked luggage.) |
In Canada, Via Rail will take a trailer on all baggage cars for $20.00 in case you make it across the border.

I'm particularly interested in regional rail experiences. (Amtrak would presumably take a trailer as checked luggage.) Amtrak will require you to box the trailer, just as they do a bike, and will only allow it if you are traveling to a station with checked baggage. I'm considering replacing my carbon fork with a steel one so I can carry front racks and leave the trailer at home. |
Rode Amtrak Empire Builder in spring 2007, boxed bike and Bob trailer. No problem, I think there was an additional fee, I know I had to buy bike box ($10) and two smaller boxes($5 each) for Bob at train station.
