Hi i am tryin to go on a bike trip to refresh my mind and have some time alone.

so i am going to San Diego from Los Angeles

but i dont know if i could bike on a pacific HWY or CA-19 s hwy.

because if i cant, the distance doubles.

and my girlfriend goes to UCSD so im planning to visit her too.

please someone help me out because i kinda dont know what to do because

i've been to LA bike marathon for 7 years but i've never went on a bike trip.

so please give me some tips

you should check the Touring forum, this is more of their type of ride.

or the SoCal forum, to get info on those roads.

Going between those two cities is quite easy. SR-1 and even a portion of I-5 are open for travel for bicycles. Expect about 8 miles of freeway riding, unless you are allowed to ride through Camp Pendelton that day. It varies. Where are you starting from in Los Angeles? I've taken that trip before. I also live in San Diego and am quite familiar with the route. Basically, you'll end up on Coast Highway south of Dana Point, which passes through San Clemente. South of there, within San Diego County, you'll follow old US 101, which is partially open, and partially a bicycle path. Once you hit Las Pulgas Road, you may have to either take the freeway, or ride through the remainder of the military base. South of that, you'll be in Oceanside, and you can follow Coast Highway (or the signed Bike Route) the rest of the way into San Diego, and in fact, right to UCSD.
