June 09 Quick Baja Loop

Anybody interested in a quick Baja loop in June? I am proposing the following:

Day 1: San Diego to Ensenada (very doable . . . rolling hills, 1 climb of note, longish day in the saddle).

Day 2: Ensenada to San Felipe. (This is actually a ***** of a ride. Would consider breaking this into two days to make it less of a pain in the ass. But, it is doable. Serious climb at the outset.)

Day 3 (or 4): San Felipe to Mexicali. 120 miles, mas o menos, but VERY easy miles. Flat, pretty, etc.

Day 5: Mexicali to Tijuana: Long ride, but again, could be broken into two days. ***** of a climb about 1/4 the way through, but absolutely beautiful.

Any takers?

Thanks for the offer but I won't be available then.

I have ridden an alternative covering some of the same ground that you might consider if off pavement routes works for you. The AAA Baja Map is a good guide.

I rode from San Diego to Tecate then East to La Rumarosa on Hwy 2 [although you could turn South at El Hongo as well]. Then South on gravel and sand to Laguna Hanson in Parque Constitucion Nacional de 1857 continuing South to near Valle La Trinidad where I returned to pavement on Hwy 3 and on to San Felipe. This was part of a longer trip along the coast of the Sea of Cortez on mostly gravel roads.

I liked losing all the usual traffic on the few main paved roads quickly and visiting the park with its rock formations was a bonus. Wider tires for float in sand are needed along with self sufficiency in food and water for longer stretches but it was well worth it.

Planning all tarmac. I have ridden Baja X 10 +/-, and it is always fun, but this is just a week long (more or less) road trip. Should be a great time of year with relatively light traffic. Solo or with 10 other riders, it is still fun.

Cheers
