The LHT should be fine! Heinz Stucke started with a 3-speed and used different bikes for years, ending his "journey" with a Brompton.

No it is probably people who search via the googles or other search engines and old threads pop up and it isn't ranked by date as it is when you are a member and log in from the site. I frequently will search something and find old threads from here.

What bicycle you would for use such a trip is still relevant and interesting. Personally I'ld look at the stuff people do the Great Divide on. I'ld certainly do some warm up trips on some similar terrain.
