Bike Touring Movie finally done!

About 2 and a half years ago, I posted a preview of a movie I was working on about bike touring across Canada. Well, I'm relieved to say that I finally got this project done!

The whole movie (60 minutes) is online and can be watched and downloaded on the site...

https://mikebeauchamp.com/crosscanada

I really want to thank everyone that responded to the original thread (https://www.bikeforums.net/touring/250791-bike-touring-movie-preview-opinions-suggestions-wanted.html). A lot of people gave me some really awesome encouragement to get this project done... and reading through the comments really motivated me to finally finish this thing. The feedback I received was really insightful and I kept it in mind during the whole editing process. I think I've made a movie that pretty accurately represents my experiences and I hope you guys like it. It was pretty hard for me finally getting this movie done... I think having 20 hours of footage was pretty overwhelming, and I really wanted to do it properly so people who "get" bicycle touring can relate to it, and maybe people that don't get it can at least have an opportunity to. Since I posted the original preview, I moved to New Zealand with a girl that I would have never met if I didn't do this tour. I've done some other tours as well (California coast) and I'm planning on doing more. It's crazy how much this tour changed my life actually...

Anyways, I hope I've captured a bit of what bicycle touring is all about... and I really hope you guys like it!

A few people have told me that the vimeo version of the video sometimes sometimes stops working 42 minutes into the movie. I'm in the process of correcting that, in the meantime the Downloadable version still works and I've added a new streaming version that should work.

Mike

hi mike, i just watched your film. its so, so good. you got some great shots, your editing is terrific and generally the whole sensibility of the project is just very impressive. and i admire your bravery for facing bears and filming your self on the toilet.
at the beginning you say you don't know what you want to be when you grow up. i vote for filmmaker!
well done!

Hey man never heard of this till this post, just watched it. Very nice, keep up the good work. Some interesting vantage points. Must have been a lot of extra work with all the camera equipment/tripods. Who the hell snips a wire on a bike as a prank!?

I just noticed that the vimeo version stops at 42 minutes into the movie for some reason. I'm working on correcting that, but the download link works properly and stuff still.

Dude, that was a great time you had there. Love the way you made the movie. I had great time with my buddies watching while you were pushing on pedals. Touring is a great time to check out the world. Bike touring is best way of looking on everything you would not see while on motorcycle or in the car. Thanks again for the movie.

Pretty cool Mike, thanks.

I love the way you touched on a lot of the unpleasant things that happen during a bicycle tour(illness, insects, bad roads, etc.), but highlighted on the zen-like stuff as well, such as the beauty of taking a piss outside at night.

Terrific editing. You put it all together and made it interesting.

By the way, you're one hairy sum-n-a-gun.

Thank you, Mike. The images and instances that you chose to include were very memorable. It was an inspiring film, actually. And we are all glad that the bear did not give chase... three days after you lost your bear spray. (I thought the only effective bear spray was the .50 caliber variety) Anyway, well done.

Hey Mike

Your video was very interesting to watch.
It gave me inspiration, information and courage to kick off my tour this year.

Can you tell me where you saw that bear, looks to me the way its edited it was after passing Toronto?

I just finished watching the film and must say that it is very well done. I am an aspiring bicycle tourer, and hope to soon enough start making some significant journeys, and hope to continue them for the rest of my life. This film is very inspiring, and watching it made it difficult to not go hop on the bike right now. Thanks, and congratulations. If you have them up somewhere, it would be cool to see the photographs you took on the trip as well.

Funny, just yesterday or the day before I was wondering what had happened to your movie. I don't know how it turned out because I am still on dial-up, but I will try and catch it at the library.

I still remember our ride through the rain, and I did the same section in '07 that we did in '05 figuring I would get a chance to see the north shore in better weather. Largely the same weather, though. I've decided maybe that isn't the time of year to do it.
