I sorta doubt that hydrogen embrittlement is a big issue on a touring bike. But it is over-rated for rust prevention. Powder coat or good paint will do you more good.
I have considered parkerizing but don't know if that's appropriate on something the size of a frame. |
canti brakes

I don't understand the issue with canti brakes either. The BJ World Tour was my first bike with canti brakes and I love them. They have more stopping power than calipers and much more clearance for fenders and wider tires.

Just like chewybrain I'm going for a look. I don't like the look of cantis... besides dia-compe center-pulls work just as well... So I'm trying to see what I can get before I give in.
I'm still trying to imaging my life with cantis... :) |
Ok so. I'm going with the Audax End-End. It's basically 90% the bike I want. I just sold my '03 Bianchi Pista, since I don't commute anymore and racing it seems to be a pipe dream now that I have a new daughter...
So really the only things I don't love about the A:E-E are the head-tube derailleur cable stops and the rear break stops on the top-tube. I really prefer down-tube bosses and the 3-guides-on-top style cable routing... but I can save that for when I order a Mercian in a few years ;) But really for $650 shipped you can beat it! |
