A well made bike storage unit
 

I JUST got this rack/bike holster gizmo and I love it. Really light and compact AND strong. Can hold 100 lbs. It doubles as a work stand if you set the 'arms' (just slide 'em up and down) just right and clamp your bike in via an adjustable clamp. It's called 'the michelangelo' by 'the art of storage', in case you're interested. So, I had to snap some photos......

Top is my GF's bike, then the trucker, on the right is my speedy bike (the dime-a-dozen kilo TT.....I love it though).

Just thought I'd post it for anyone looking for a good storage rack. Tiny apt. + lotsa bikes = need for a good storage rack.

I wound up going for the Nashbar free-standing rack. Similar concept, a little more versatile and rugged imo.

If you are in the market for one of these types of products,
WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT BUY THIS ONE FROM PERFORMANCE BIKE.
I bought this one first..... What a piece of junk. Can't tighten the bolts enough because they strip out, I had two strip. After I assembled it, it would wobble around quite a bit. I know how to assemble things, this POS is just badly designed, and HEAVY. I returned it immediately, went to another LBS and got the lighter, stronger, more compact one in my OP.

I trust your nashbar version works well though, as you seem to like it.

I'm sure it's the same, since Performance owns Nashbar. No stripped bolts, no wobbles, works fine.

Maybe it could take four 15-pound carbon fiber bikes. ;) The arms aren't long enough for more than 2, really.

you can safely hang a bike from a single vinyl coated steel J hook, 3 bucks from lowes, etc

ideally you should drill a slightly smaller diameter hole into the exact center of the 2x4 stud, then screw in the hook till you can't hardly turn it anymore with no tool.

if you're not particularly strong use leverage device.

the pedal and bar only will contact wall surface when hanging sideways (against wall) - so, not much damage if careful

when you move just unscrew, spackle, paint. or leave it there for next tenant.

Yeah I tried that. Landlord is AGAINST it. I wish I could...... Much cheaper.
(I guess I just shouldn't have asked him if it was OK)

I'm happy though. Now I have a usable work stand to use, instead of trying to prop the damn thing up somehow while working on it.

That rack is great!! I love mine. and yes they can hold 4 bikes, they make short legs for the back side.

I too did not want any holes in our wall or ceiling so I built this storage rack to hold 4 bikes. It's just a pressure fit to hold it steady and it is very sturdy. I think it cost about 30-40 total.

Windows: right click on the picture, click "Properties", highlight and click on the information given under "image address"
Mac: right click on the picture, click on "Copy image address"
Back on BFnet: put your little blinky cursor thing where you want the image in your post, click the icon that looks like a yellow postcard, a small box will open up, paste the image address where indicated, click on OK.
EDIT: See how big this pic is? That`s what I don`t like about it- any way to resize images imported this way? The advantage is that you can post pictures, write, then more pics, then more text.

Mine had the same problem. I limped along with it for a year until I moved, then tossed it. I did have them send me replacement bolts gratis, though.

Thanks crawdaddio. I looked at the same stand you have but I just didn't have the money. Since building this one I've done another even cheaper 3 bike stand for my office and built myself some rollers, which are actualy visible on the lower right of my picture. I should really take some pics and a video of them and post it sometime. Anywho, if you want some more pics of this setup just let me know and I'll post them too.
