Swallow a spider (to catch the fly)?

(warning.... gross story

OK, for the second time in recent memory I've had a bug of some variety go into my throat while riding (i.e down the esophagus)... the scenario goes like this;
Uh-oh, was that a bug? Swallow hard... I think it was... Swallow really hard and hope it isn't a bee... I think it's going down.... no, it's crawling out... then it hits the gag reflex area and all bets are off. First time it happened, gagging seems to have squished the critter and peace returned. Second time it just stunned him (did I mention I was riding without any water?) About 2 miles from home it began to show life (this is starting to sound like a cross between Terminator and Alien....) I was really worried I'd ride into my driveway and start gagging in front of the neighbors (bikers are already perceived as weird... don't need to aggravate that).

Am I alone in this? I'm not looking for a solution, just wondering if this is a common phenomena.

I've never swallowed any bugs while riding. But I do know a guy who swallowed some sort of aquatic bug while swimming in a large pond. It took him a few hours to realize that the strange feeling in his throat was actually a bug.

A lady asked me for directions while I was riding last spring and as soon as I opened my mouth to respond, a fly (or similar) flew into my throat. It went down just fine.

Had a small bee fly into my mouth once as I was stuggling up a steep dirt road; it stung me and flew out and away.
On a ride a friends cousin got a huge bug in his eye socket! Felt it wriggling around in there...F'n gross...

I was cycling home in the city one summer night a few years back with no water, really pushing myself so I was breathing really heavily with mouth wide open, and all of a sudden I saw a massive somethingorother in the air ahead and above me, basically just a blur arcing down and toward me. I closed my mouth just in time to squish a brown moth about 2" across between my lips. Got a bit on my tongue, quite bitter tasting. Spat a bunch and used my sleeve to clean my tongue a bit (cotton tastes better than moth). I've had a lot of tiny black flies in my eyes even in the city, sometimes they manage to squirm around for quite some time before I get them out. Definitely have had a couple of small flies end up in my mouth while riding. No bees yet, hopefully none to come!

do I win with a cicada? THAT was the most traumatic event of my young life. Descending a hill, yelling at my friend, the cicada flew straight into my throat. I crashed and puked it up, but the feel of a buzzing cicada lodged in my throat is something I will never forget...
