Jandd Extreme - Arkel Combination

I have been reviewing front rack options for a Cannondale T800 (bought new in 2000). One option is the Jandd Extreme. I have Arkel panniers and looking at the pictures it is not clear if they will clamp onto the rack. Does anyone have any experience with these racks in combination with Arkels? I am also looking at other racks including Tubus and OMM. Trying to watch the pennies and still end up with a quality product that fits the bike. Thanks.

The top rails are separate from the platform, so yes, it should work. On the Jannd you will need to 'widen' the cam-locks to their maximum, so the wire hook does not slide around too much. I went with a Tubus, if for no other reason that Wayne at the Touring store is a nice guy.

I tour with the new Arkel rack locking system and have found that although it is possible to connect to almost every pannier rack, some are better than others. At the best, the system allows one handed connection. You attach the bottom sprung connector and just pull the extended cams up over the rack wire. If the connector is not directly below your connecting point, or there are welds at that point, the connection is not as easy. The heavier the pannier, the more frustrating the connection.

I love my Arkel panniers so mauch, I actually chose a rack that would fit them properly and took the panniers to the shop when I bought the rack.

BTW, the system allows for an easy way to stop thiefs disconnecting your panniers from the rack. I use a re-useable plastic tie is a descrete place. It only takes a second for me to untie it, before removing the panniers.

I have the older Arkel mounting system on my T42 and GT30's and they fit perfectly on my Jandd Extreme and Expedition racks. Mounted on an 02 T2000.
