Xtracycle and LHT incompatible? HELP HELP HELP

So I just tried mounting my xtracycle to my LHT and it appears that the chainstays are to long for the xtracycle. HTe tongue is not reaching past the cross bar between CS. Has this happened to anyone else? I have a 58cm LHT if that makes a difference and a 26" xtracycle because everyone including the folks at xtracycle tell me there is no difference besides position of canti mounts.

I am trying to go on a tour in about a month and don't have the money to build up another touring rig. I need help please.

Thanks

Edit: I don't know why this would be an issue because on Surly's website every LHT has a chainstay length of 18.1in

You may want to shoot them an email. Granted, this is the 26' version, but if as you said, the chainstay lengths are the same, it shouldn't be an issue. Good luck, and post pics when you get it. ; )

The other option is to simply not use the xtracycle, but if you don't have the bags for it, that may be expensive.

He'll figure it out, but if you have to choose between the xtra and the LHT, better off with the xtra....
(and the LHT is very nice,..... the xtra is essential)

For what I am planning I need the xtracycle. I mounted it but I am very worried about the tongue not going past the chainstay bridge. It is resting on it but the end of the tongue is on the far end of the bridge. Here are some pics, does it look safe to you all?

Yeah, looks a little weird to me, but I'm far from an expert.

I'd check with Surly or the folks who make the Xtracycle. You're clearly not the first to try and Xtracycle a LHT; Surly know their bikes in and out, are responsive, and I'm sure they messed with fitting Xtracycles when they were designing the Big Dummy.

Good luck....

that looks fine. I mounted mine on a specialized sirrus... it worked fine. Don't sweat it. That is the reason they make the plate. Mine looked just like yours mounted up.

if i remember correctly
you need to order another "plate" from XtraCycle and a longer bolt.
so that you can sandwich the CS between the plates.

as i remember, there is an XtraCycle suggested method to mount the FreeRadical to a frame w/o a CS bridge.

however, be forewarned...
the positioning of the "tongue" affects the geometry of the overall "Convert Job"

you may end up playing with this
you may or may not like the outcome...

i used a Cdale MTB for my convert job and used it for about 2yrs.
ultimately I liked the setup with the tongue under the CS (which XtraCycle does not recommend) <-- if i remember correctly as per mfg instructions.)

The 58 cm LHT uses 700c wheels, and your Xtracycle is for 26 inch wheels. Are they compatible?

I was told there is no difference in size or geometry except the positioning of the canti mount studs. Straight from xtracycle.

Asana, you can sandwich, but if I did that the front Derailleur and the spoke holder on the frame get in the way of the other Fap. If I move it back then the CS is too wide for the Fap. I don't think I have that option

A buddy of mine had the same problem on his LHT. He's got everything mounted like you do, and has had no problems yet. It's a less-than-ideal set up, but it's passable.
