Flying with a fuel bottle (for cooking): A TIP

Hi folks, just landed in the US of A and wanted to share a little tip with you. Frequently the question comes up here about whether you can take the fuel bottle for MSR-type stoves on a plane. Security doesn't like them because they tend to smell of fumes. Well, security in NZ said that after you wash them out well with soapy water a few times, just refill the bottle with soapy water and put the screw top back in and pack them that way. In that case, there is absolutely no chance of any fumes offending security (fears it will build up and spark) or any sensors as it's all eaten up by the water. I wouldn't have thought of this so wanted to pass it on...

Happy flying!

PS - Air NZ are great. No extra bike fees and 46kg luggage allowance each between US and NZ. Not bad eh?
