Tourer buying

Hello! this is my first post,my name is Jorge, I am from Madrid, not many tourers over here. This forum as become my main info source, for what I am so grateful to you all...

I am in the process of buying my first tourer through internet,a second hand Koga Miyata Randonneur.I am 5.48 tall (167cm.)and the bike is a 57cm. frame(22.4 inches)my inseam 70cm(30.3 inches).

I do´nt know about wheel size, well, the Web says is equipped with 28´ wheels,I suppose they are all the same...I understand the bike is..big for me? The seller says that the bike fits him perfectly and that been him an inch smaller than me I should´nt worry. As you could imagine I have no way to do a proper fitting test. What do you think?

The funny thing about wheel sizes is that sometimes more than one size was called the same thing (at least two different sizes have been called "28 inch") and sometimes one size is has the more than one "name" across the globe (29er, 28 inch, and 700c all refer to "622" wheels). The wheels on that Koga Miyata are probably 700c (622), which is a very common size.

About the way that the bike fits you, I don`t know. There is no way you can ride it before you buy to see how it fits? Or maybe at least see if K.M. has a website that lists the complete geometry, so you can ride a similar bike? Más vale preparar que lamentar....

I am 175cm tall with an 81cm inseam. I have a 55cm touring bike, which I think is a little too big for me, so the chances are that 57cm bike is far too big for you - you'd be better off looking at a 51cm or 53cm frame.

"Más vale prevenir que lamentar.... " that´s right!haha!Good spanish by the way!
But I am afraid not,the bike is in another country,to buy a second hand touring bike in Spain is "impossible mission IV"that´s why I am asking, thank you for the answer anyway:) J.

Find a reputable bike shop and spend a few bucks getting measured up. Then test drive a few, go to another store and ask a few questions and see where they size you and drive one of their samples.

At the end I´ve bought a second hand 2002 Koga Miyata GlobeTraveller with a 50cm. frame, this model
was done in sizes 47-50-54-57-60 and 63cm. My size is 51 as you wisely said,I am sure it wont be too much an issue ,in any case better than 54. for the clearance ...

Perhaps this could help you,is where I did my sizing:

In any case I agree, better to go to a shop and test it if you have the chance. J.
