Claire Saltonstall or RT 6A

I'm riding from Boston to Cape Cod and plan on using part of the Claire Saltonstall route.
There is a section that uses the service road along RT. 6. Anyone know the condition
of this road or would using RT. 6A be better? I would be staying at the state park overnight
in Sandwich

Either rt. is OK, 6A is more scenic, but more traffic.
