I'd definitely set out, right now ... north-west... (from north qld) to darwin.. hitch boats thru indonesia .. and just go were the wind takes me ... no set plans ... no itinery ...

probably a world tour would be good, coz let's face it .. with unlimited time and money, the only thing stopping you is lack of will ....


what would be your DREAM tour ?

This is an issue that varies by my mood. ... I think my first choice is across Australia.. But, then an Aussie once told me the trek across the state of Western Australia is boring. But, then I like the desert. I do know once you get to South Australia vintners are at every bend and the climate turns Mediterranean. How's Australia for motorists acceptance of cyclists and cycling infrastructure. ?.

I don't have all that exotic a preference in tours. I like the US pretty well. The Pacific Coast, the Trans America, and the Northern Tier are all my kind of tour. I want to do the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive sometime.

Some day not to far off I want to tour Glacier, Banff, and Jasper, but Oregon and Colorado will be hard to beat.

I don't have a huge desire to travel to exotic locales, but if I had lots of time and money... Maybe I would go to New Zealand or possibly just bum around Europe with no particular destination.

My dream tour would be on a fifty foot sloop through the South Pacific.

Biking, I'd say staepj1's Skyline/Blue Ridge tour would be great with a credit card.

Foreign: India through Southeast Asia.

South. San Diego to Tierra del Fuego. No tent; no sleeping bag. Stop at every 4 or 5 star hotel offering massages. Probably would hire a support vehicle, too. Just for the hell of it. Maybe even ditch the bike, and mount a stationary bike in the bed of pickup. The support vehicle could drive, and could spin easily in the back.

I'm the credit-card touring type, but do pack about 30 lb worth of gear. I'm dreaming of a Land's End / John o'Groats tour next summer, but the logisitics of transporting my bike to and from, as well as the current economy, are making me think twice about this one.

My dream tour at the moment, which will hopefully become a reality in a couple of years, is a trip down the coast of california, through baja, and continuing through mainland mexico, central, and south america, all the way down to tierra del fuego.

The current dream I am nurturing: next July over to Scotland for the first two rounds of the Open (at Turnberry in 09) and shopping for wool. Then over to St Andrews or thereabouts and on across to Amsterdam. From there, wind through Holland and Belgium to end up gawking at the last stage of the Tour (the champagne drinking and general goofing of the riders before they get into Paris seems like it would be fun).

And then back home to work?!? We'll have to see about that...

I did a 'large part' of my dream tour in 1998-2000 on my https://www.cyclingscholar.com world cycling tour. I must have liked it, because I am actively planning my 2nd tour, probably early next decade. I would add Africa to the tour; as a geologist, I would like to see the rift valleys and also the source(s) of the Nile. And like others have mentioned, I would like to see many parts of australia as well.


Many of my favorite cycling areas..the silk road, central america, the canadian rockies, avenue of the volcanoes in equador....await seeing a 2nd time!

right now, realistically... the north side of the great lakes, Kingston to Duluth. my dream though would be the perimeter of them all. except maybe the Detroit, Buffalo and Cleveland parts, haha.

I think I'd do a US tour, a modified loop that might include an excursion into Canada to got to Alaska. Never realy thought about it as I know its a dream bigger than I can have....but who knows for a dollar I might become a millionar tomorrow

really, how much does it cost to do a dream tour ? definitely not millions

i think people are afraid to leave behind the 'security' of a job, and certaintly having a family would be a hinderance...

but other than this... What is stopping you ?

Every mountain pass in France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany. The entire coast of Spain, France, Italy, Croatia, Greece.

Peru, Chile, Argentina, Patagonia.

Back to New Zealand, for a re-do of the South Island and completion of the north. Back to Tasmania, the Australian continental divide.

Japan.

Beartooths, Utah national parks, Arizona and New Mexico, Nevada and Oregon and Washington, the Sierra. Alaska with a support vehicle.

If I had unlimited resources (I've already got unlimited time), I'd do what I'm planning to do ... tour the world. Only, I wouldn't have to stop along the way and work if I had unlimited resources ... unless I really wanted to.
