Which to keep Trek 720 or Heron Touring
 

I have a 1983 Silver Trek 720 and an Early 90's Heron Touring bicycle. I can only keep one of these two bikes. I love both of them and they both ride great. Only major major difference is the 26" wheels on the Heron vs. the 700 on the trek 720. Anybody have any advice on which to keep and which to sacrifice to ebay?

If the 720 is in original configuration and good condition, then its collectable value is probably high. Sell it. If its been modified and updated to suit your needs, its value to collectors is lower and its value to you is higher, keep it.

Keep the Trek. It's a classic.

ditch the trek, thats not the best year of the 720. (dont get me wrong i love old treks)

The Heron is a nicer bike, and the 26's cinch it. If the 720 was a stock 85, itd be a tough choice...

Good advice. A silver 720? Mine came in a horrid color but (repainted) I love it.

Positron makes a good point as well. Does the 720 have cantilever brakes? If not, the other one is better for touring.

On second thought, keep the trek, its a classic. Sell me the Heron, toot sweet!

Thanks for all the input so far, keep it coming. It's a tough choice ain't it. If I had to choose RIGHT NOW. I would take the trek and sell the Heron, mostly just because the trek has been my ride for a while and I love it. The one thing that makes me hold out and think again about the heron is the fact that my Fat Rear does better on those smaller wheels, less broken spokes etc.

Id steal all the best parts and put them on the heron though.

The 720 in my opinion is one of the best touring bikes ever made and would be difficult and expensive to replace. I would definitely keep it without hesitation. Upgrade the components if you want newer technology

Do you really need to sell one? For the little money you'll get for them, is it really worth it?

that is a tough choice. I think I would find a way to keep both.

I have a 1984 trek 720 that I love and commute on nearly every day. Some day I will tour on it. I can't imagine selling it.

I am a very lucky man

I bought a 1974 Mizutani road bike. Gave it away in 1990. Then, in 2008 I asked for it back and was lucky to have given it to a fellow that was way too small to ever ride it.

He gave it back to me.

Do not get rid of either bike. Rent space to store it if need be, but do not let it go. You may not be as lucky as I was.
