But we aren't talking about loaded touring here. The OP asked about fully supported touring. For that I would go 25mm if not narrower. Different strokes though.

I recently got an '09 Kona Dew Drop for an all around ride in hilly Tennessee. This bike is great for road miles, and can be set up for loaded touring. The 30-42-52 chainring combined with the 11-34 cassette will get you up VERY steep hills, and will roll with the group. The Conti Country Ride tires are fabulous, and this machine has mechanical disc brakes.
I went to the bike shop looking for a Cannondale, but the Kona had every thing I wanted, at half the price.
