San Francisco To Orange County Trip Planning OCT 9-18, 2009
It's official!
It started at a family gathering as my two cousin-in-law's, Chuck & Jon [brothers] and I where talking smack about riding down the cost from San Francisco to Orange County. I've been riding for a while and did my Century in Dec'08. Jon, the younger of the group [20's] said he was down to go! Chuck [29] said he wanted to do it - and do it style! Chuck said he wants to do it for his 30th birthday! SWEET! I'M IN!
At the time, Chuck did not have a bike!!! Chuck bought a bike and has been pedaling his you know what off getting in shape and knocking down some big weekend rides. He started slow and consistent and just worked his way up! He is ready! We are ready! NOW IT's SIX WEEKS AWAY and I planned to have started this thread earlier, but been so busy with work!!! But I have been working on a little list of items I might need!
The email from Chuck:

Hello Family...
As some of you may or may not know Rodney, Jon and myself are planning to ride our bikes from San Francisco to Huntington Beach... It's going to be about 520 miles and we're going to do it over 6 days. It was Jon and Rodney's idea last thanksgiving and I told them to give me a year to train for it and I would do it in October for my 30th birthday. So we're doing it and now we're about 2 months away from the big ride. (Ride will be October 9-16.)
Love you all,
-Chuck
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
So there it is, once you announce to the family and I have scheduled the time off with work and told my wife and kids - IT'S ON!!!
More to come as we get closer!!!

Great idea and sounds like a lot of fun. How are you doing it? Camping at the state parks and cooking your meals or staying in motels and eating at restaurants?
Might buy the book "Cycling the Pacific Coast" by Tom Kirkendall and Vick Spring. I think the 4th edition is the latest (2005) but still very useful.
