Route Suggestions: ALA to NYC

Future planning! Would like to visit my relatives in NYC on a bike tour. I am in Montgomery, AL. 70/30camping/hotel. How would you make the trip?

My first thought was to work my way over to one of the ACA's Atlantic Coast routes, or if it would be better to take the Underground RR route and then work my way east.

Roll Tide, indeed!

I recommend taking the ACA Atlantic Coast route. I rode from Tuscaloosa to Charleston this past May, and from Tuscalooosa to Savannah last summer. You can catch the ACA route near either of those cities. My recommendation is to go from Montgomery to Wetumpka, and catch S.R. 14 headed east thru Tallassee and on to Auburn. From there, head over to Columbus GA.

As far as getting across GA is concerned, check out the BRAG web site. They have details on the route taken every year since its inception. I think it was the first year that the ride went from Savannah to Columbus (I just reversed those directions for my ride last year).

I can provide more details if you need them, but my records are all at home right now.

Was also considering going east to Statesboro, then picking up the coastal route. Long way off, though. Appreciate the tip.

The BRAG route I referred to takes you just south of Statesboro (to Register, actually). You catch the ACA route there.
