It's "magic blue" it has a a hint of red and purple in it if the sun hits it just right.... looks pretty good:)

That is one snazzy bike! What was the hardest part about the build process? What was the most enjoyable?

Fantastic bike, great set of components on it. Our local Gunnar dealer has a Fastlane on the floor in an "urban commuter" set-up. Very interesting to compare that to your version. I'd like one of each!

Beauty! That's very similar to what I'm planning for a Fastlane. Have you weighed it yet? What are your plans for carrying a touring load? Racks? Different fork?

I guess the hardest part of the build was the waiting it took to get all of the parts in to piece it together. A friend of mine built the wheels and helped me with the whole process so all-in-all, it was a pretty painless process. Everything about the process was enjoyable... learning how to set- up everything and watching it come together part by part was the best.... watching how each part complemented the next and so on.

If you are curious as to how I got an all black A719 rim with machined sidewalls.. this is how it was done... Since it is a disc set-up and I won't be using the sidewalls, we just took KG Gun Kote and airbrushed it on. I use it on some rifles of mine and it is a durable finish... it took about 2-3 coats and looks great in the all black wheel!

Thanks truman! I have weighed it.... with only the water bottle cages on it, it came in at 26.0lbs even. I'm not sure I would go with a different fork at this point. I do want to try it out and see how it holds up. If I decide to switch it out, it will be with a steel fork from Waterford precision. As for racks, I would go with something from Arkel... Cold Springs or Sherpa disc compatible. Same with the panniers. However, I do want to try a BOB Ibex out too.

So what did this urban commuter set-up consist of?? I have a quick detach fender that i will be putting on for commuting during inclement weather but wouldn't mind the SKS/Esge ones that Rivendell are selling. I know when I inquired about a thrid set of water bottle braze-ons, it was $130. I will just go with my Lobo! :roflmao2:

What a great bike. I know that feeling of waiting for all the parts to come together. I started a dream build and hit a bump in the road. Everything but wheels and stem in the garage waiting to go. Maybe by Thanksgiving. Glad yours came out so great.

Hello Michael.... sorry i have been incommunicado! the police academy had been keeping me quite busy as of late. i have a few rides in totaling about 150 miles. It rides great. the carbon cockpit soaks up the bumps. i am trying to get used to the more upright riding position as opposed to my F2. It odesn't accelerate or keep the spped like the F2 obviously but it's like comparing apples to oranges... I really want to do some fall rides on the trails around here and madtown. i am very happy with it.... i will try the telephone thing when i get the xtr drivetrain and sram 11-32 set up;)

well thanks... i am very happy with it! i know that feeling all too well... took me around 3 months and most of it was in prime summer weather. my time is limited now but i plan on getting it out when i can... i hope you can get yours up and running soon my friend! Best of luck!

Nice build. You have trouble with the Q-Factor on the cranks or do you always run the knee savers?

I would imagine it would be a fun bike to tour on. I really like LaRue stuff, but I can't quite afford it yet. Maybe in the future.:)

Thanks for the comment... When I bought my last roadbike, I had a profit done and they were recomended. THe reason being, I snapped my femur in half up by the hip and when it healed it did so at an outward angle, this was starting to give me knee pain. We decided to go on both sides and it has worked great ever since... no more knee pain!
