Charlottesville, VA & Blueridge Pkwy

Hi. This is a shout out to cyclists in this region of the eastern US. My friend & I have scrounged a few days off from work both and we're looking to use them for a 2-3 day ride around Charlottesville, how far around we're not sure. This should be October 17th to the 20th (not a firm plan just yet).

Advise us if you have any ideas about routes, weather (should we expect a lot of rain & cold? or is it temperate, low 50s that time of year?), campgrounds or decently priced cabins...(maybe too much to ask for I realize). My riding buddy & I did a MS ride in that area 2 summers ago, very pretty & I expect Fall to be even better. We have a tent, stove & panniers so I guess good maps is the next essential.

Suggestions, restaurants, wineries, stretches of road w/ great views, just about anything local cyclists would recommend.

We'd appreciate any feedback.

The Blue Ridge parkway is good riding with great scenery, but services are few and far apart. Leaving the parkway to get to services means a steep climb to get back to it in most cases, so plan accordingly. Skyline drive has more services and is also nice.

Misty Mountain Campground is nice. They have tent sites and cabins. They gave us a cyclists price break for a tent site when we passed through on the Trans America. The campsites on skyline drive are OK as well and there are a lot of nice side hikes if that interests you.
