Ortlieb Handle Bar Bag Organizer

I'm aware that many of you have the Ortlieb Handlebar bag.

Has anyone figured out a good way to organize/divide up the space. I find that the "X brace" that comes with it is less than perfect- at least for my needs.

Who's gotten creative and devised a better way?

I gave it another whirl on a recent trip, as I was coming up with plans to toss the 'X' and build shelves like a tackle box. I actually didn't mind it at the end of the day sorting things and orgnaizing things if it got out of hand, and really emptied it out maybe once a week. I carried a surprisingly alot of electronics, gloves, book, money, flashlights, medications and still had lots of room if I wanted to shove some fruit or others in there. I retract my earlier statements in July being frustrated with it.

My beef is that it takes a great big open space and divides it into four goofy sized spaces with pinched angles.

On top of that, it "organizes" (their word, not mine) the bottom half of the space and leaves the top half open to dumping more stuff in. Guess it is useful as a place to stuff a vest or arm warmers, but then the things below it are obstructed.

I think it could be better.

Organize stuff into a fanny pack and put that into the bar bag.

I try not to fill it over half full. That way it's easier to sort through the stuff in there. Some people use zip-lock bags for organization.

I gave up trying to organize by handlebar bag. I didn't realize that our Ortlieb's came with an organizer until I just asked my wife about it. I keep the imortant things like passport and other small paper work in the zippered compartment, and just try to be fairly consistent about where I put things. I try to put wallet, camera, and sunglasses in about the same spot every day. I also try to arrange (I did not say organize) things in the evening or in the morning before we start to ride.

This may be the right answer: Think of it as the bike's "junk drawer".
