GT Peace Tour?

Has anyone seen, heard of, or otherwise ridden the new GT Peace Tour? I noticed it as a new offering for 2010 on GTs website. The frame looks decent, made with Reynolds 520 and eyelets/braze-ons for racks and fenders, front and back. But, the components specs look questionable. Alot of no-name stuff. I was just wondering if anyone had any real experience with the bike.

Interesting and nice to see another option added from a another company. I would have to agree with you about some of the component specs -- Wonder what the actual street selling price will be of it and if any shops will stock it?

I did a Google search on it and only came up with Down Cycles at a price of $849. That seems high to me if you'd have to replace hubs, rims, shifters, etc. to be dependable on a long tour. What caught my eye was the disc brakes. I know this isn't a commonly held belief, but coming from a mtb background, I like discs.

But I guess for the price, the Raleigh Sojourn might be a better choice.

It looks like it would make a better commuter than tourer with the stock parts on it. Since it is a brand new model, I assume it will be mid-2010 before we find out how low the street price might end up being.

Reviving a thread from a few months ago. I saw one of these bikes at the LBS today, and it looked awesome for the price. He had it for $699, and it was pretty sharp looking. As stated, some of the components are no-name or entry level, but this thing is a little more than half the price of a Raleigh Sojourn. I think it would make an awesome commuter in stock form, and with a few upgrades, could handle duty as a capable tourer.

i was at my LBS yesterday dropping off a wheel for trueing (truing?) and they happened to have one there. When I go back to p/u the wheel, I might talk to a sales guy about it. Was kind of short on time last night & they were busy so I didnt bother tire kicking. I'd kind of like to take it for a quick ride & see how it feels. Their tag said either 849 or 899. If it rides nice, I might consider selling one of my bikes to my brother and buying it. I'll come back with a test drive review if I take it for a ride.

I think the price is fair despite some no-name parts. Not everyone can afford a high-quality touring bike, and there previously weren't many good lower-priced options available, so I was pleased to see this released.
