DA 7703 crankset questions

I'm considering picking up a 7703 crankset for my bike. It's too much $$$ to upgrade my groupset and would like to stay 9 sp anyways. What would be a good bb to use? I've heard the 7703 bb has sealed bearing but don't know for certain. Is there any issues with the 7703 bb or is there a better one to use? It seems like there's options available for changing the sprocket sizes (I'd like to swap out the 39 tooth for a 42). Is there anything I should know before I buy? I'm hoping it will be a reliable crank without any issues. Thoughts? It's going in a felt f90 if that matters at all...

I don't think you'll have a lot of choices for the bottom bracket if you go with that crank. I believe that it's the older version crank that uses the Octalink II (sealed) bottom bracket.

Why get that particular crankset? It's sort of an orphan at this point. Shimano has moved on to external bearing bottom brackets.

Another problem with that crank is the small ring. It doesn't bolt to the arms. It has an odd BSD and bolts to the middle ring. The smallest ring will be the "racing" 30. http://techdocs.shimano.com/media/te...9830611773.pdf

Why do you want to change your crank set? If you want different rings you can just buy them separately.

What BB do you have now? The cheapest option would be to upgrade to a crankset that used the same BB.

The bb for that crank is really hard to find, the distributers here in canada don't stock them anymore. There are two types of octalink bbs; long splined one which is common and compatible with lower end shimano and the short spline one which is used on DA, ultegra and XTR, which is hard to find. By the way, you can use a new 10 spd crankset for your 9spd stuff.
