Resale value on a Randonee
 

I was just curious as to whether people think that the Novara Randonee has less resale value than "traditional" bikes. People obviously recognize it as a solid touring bike, but Novara is not as recognized as Trek, Surly, Cannondale, etc. I have a 2008 Randonee that I would like to sell, but I'm wasn't sure if it has enough resale value. Any thoughts?

For the last month you could buy a new one for $799 on clearance. So that doesn't help if you paid full retail. I can't imagine not being able to get at least $500 for one in good condition. Everything below that starts to become either really old or junk.

My friend bought one (2 yrs old) for $600. It was fairly Mint condition though- original tires with little wear, clean paint etc.

The "value" of your bike is whatever the market will bare. I think that people shop for bikes by what will suit a particular need and / or price range. If your bike fits into a customers criteria you'll have just as good a chance no matter what the brand is. The interesting thing about bikes is that "Brand" only refers to the frame and geometry. The components however are the same brands all over the world and are generally known to most bike shoppers especially ones that know what a touring bike is in the first place.

I just checked eBay and couldn't find any that had sold there.

I've had good luck selling stuff, including a bike or two, on Craigslist. Suggest you put it up for sale at your best case price and drop it over time til it sells. Might want to wait a couple months for the peak selling season.

I use the 60% rule in pricing things: If the item is like new, the best price you'll get is around 60% of what a person can buy a new one for.
