Last summer I tried to cycle the length of the Portuguese coast, from Lagos to Foz do Minho, but an unfortunate accident forced me to abandon the tour in the city of Caldas da Reinha. I'm thinking of taking the train up to Caldas and cycling the northern part of the coast. After that, I'll either continue north into Galicia (Galiza), Spain, or turn east and ride through the always interesting Trás-os-montes region.

I'm riding from New Orleans to San Francisco to Vancouver to Milwaukee. Starting in 4 days.

Depending on time available this may expand or contract but the basic idea is...

North across the western end of Lake Erie by ferry and up into Canada, to Lake St. Clair, to Lake Huron, across to Lake Ontario and back down around the east end of Erie.

Will you have an online journal?

Planning 2 trips this year. In May, doing the Katy Trail in Missouri. Then Ragbrai in July, if you call that a tour.

I hope to start touring this year. Few shorter 2-3 day trips in Spring to test things out then maybe a month ride around NY State. I'm scrambling resources, I have an MTB based commuter bike that should be capable of touring but I'm hoping to build a dedicated touring/weekend rider around a Kona Sutra frame. I also have some camping equipment, but I'm afraid it's too heavy and I'll have to get a new, light tent and sleeping bag and pad. I'm thinking of eating along the way, no cooking to keep things simple in the beginning.

I wish I tried this years ago, seems like the perfect way to spend vacation, or I guess I just grew up to it:) Anyway, I have some hurdles to overcome, mainly personal and financial issues, and they outcome will decide how much touring I can do this year.

I've been reading this forum and crazyguyonabike plus some other touring sites so I think I got all the inspiration I can, now I just need to make things happen.

Transam + Western Express
I'm going east to west June through August
The only thing that worries me is the heat on the Western Express end of July / early August

I've just begun the journal. There isn't much up yet.

I've heard great things about Ragbrai. I've done the similar Michigander bike tour and loved it. I hope to meet up with Ragbrai as part of my tour, so if you see a young guy on a LHT with a hiking pack on his back rack, say hello.

Long time lurker here...we're planning our first one for the end of July. We're thinking Newport, OR > Florence, OR and follow the TransAm from Florence to John Day, then turn south to come home. About 10-12 days, time mostly depending on how the kiddos do.

I really enjoy reading the journals and looking at photos on the crazyguy site. My dream some day to do a cross country tour. But with my work schedule, will probably need to be over a period of 3 years, one month at a time.
I have a few journals on crazyguy:
Ragbrai 2009: http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/5329
A six day, four state ride in 2008: http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/4286
I look forward to following your journey....Take lots of photos!

I'm planning on doing the Atlantic Coast from Charleston to Lambertville, NJ staring in Mid-May. I just booked my flights.

My warm-up will be my usual, annual ride from SF to Laguna Beach in April.

I loved the Katy Trail, despite the fact that October blessed us with but one cold, rainy week, and it was the week we were on the trail.

I am leading a group trip to the Slovenian Alps at the end of May. The trip starts and finishes in Trieste, Italy. During 8 days we will ride from hotel to hotel covering all major climbs in the Slovenian Alps, including the famous Vrsic pass with its cobbled hairpin turns. I am very excited about this trip as this is the only part if the Alps that I have not ridden in yet and I have read only great stories about cycling in Slovenia!

I know that there are still a few spots available on this tour. Check it out at http://bikeplustours.com/slovenia-2010

We're going to do our first tandem tour, combining biking and dayhiking through some of the Redwoods parks, out and back. Suggestions welcome.

Leaving in June to do a 5 month fund-raiser for Boston Children's Hospital (where our son had heart surgery 9 years ago) from Boston to Seattle to LA.

Feaduin 02-17-10 03:34 PM

For me, its Northern France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and then to the Netherlands to see the start of the Tour de France.

A loop out of Missoula, MT. with nights in Darby, Wisdom, Wise River, Butte, Phillipsburg and Hamilton. Including Pioner Mountains Scenic Byway and Skalkaho Pass Either late June or late summer.

I'm thinkin about driving down to OK City with my brother to visit my sister's family this summer, then have him drop me off to bike the way back to NE Missouri. Think I will head NE for Clinton, MO at the westernmost point of the Katy Trail, and then take the trail onto Columbia or all the way to St. Charles. I've toured on the Katy the last couple summers, but have never been west of Boonville.

The Katy is nice to ride on, though I just hate all the dust and dirt it gets on your chain, waterbottles, and legs - not to mention the slight rolling resistance, though the relative flatness of it makes up for that.

Otherwise, I plan to get out and do tons of short 1-4 night tours with friends or by myself in my area.

No ... but we've had generally warm summer weather since the end of October. It's 30C (86F) out there right now. :)

BigBlueToe,

Look at the Empire Builder Route. It passes through northern Montana and runs to Seattle or Portland (you'll change trains in Spokane, depending on your destination). Good luck.

I had a three week tour planned, crossing Ohio, Indiana, and ending in Michigan, but due to problems with work and some other matters I may need to scratch it for 2010. The backup plan is to ride a tour from my door up PA's Bike L Route to the Y Route to the G Route, and either end in Cumberland, MD, or ride back to Chester County on the S route.

I have a few weekend tours planned to local parks - French Creek, Hibernia, Green Lane, plus a couple of car trips with my bike.

A buddy and I are planning on doing the Pacific Coast route starting in Eugene, OR and coming back to Sacramento or the SF bay. Can't wait.

chrisch 02-26-10 03:01 AM

I'm hoping to tour in France and the Pyrenees, Lot, and Dordogne regions. That should happen around May or June.
