1992 trek 8000 convert to touring bike
i ride 1992 trek 8000-will tour later this spring -anyone out there familiar with this bike-i am a newbie to this -

how is it presently set up? Are you satisfied with the handlebar setup? Depending on your ride you could slap a rack and change the fat tires to 1.5 tires and go.

i am going to add a rear rack and saddlebags that i ordered-i like everything else -i will do a couple shakeout tours around toledo bend lake before i go to far-i would really like to hear from someone familier with the trek 8000 1992 model -thank you

This is just a mountain bike, right? With front suspension? If so, you wouldn't be the first to tour on a mountain bike.
Whether it's a Trek 8000, Schwinn, or a Trek 7999 (just kidding) isn't really important. What exactly are you concerned about?

Some pictures would be helpful. I'm not familiar with that particular model. You can tour on just about anything, but there are definite advantages to certain setups and components.

Personally, I would change out the suspension fork. To my thinking, unless you have a very high quality suspension fork, the ride is needlessly bouncy especially when road riding.

The 1993 didn't have a suspension fork: https://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/B...8000&Type=bike
So it's unlikely the 1992 would either. The bike like a solid choice as long as it fits. Changing tires would help for road riding.
