Real Time GPS Tracking - InstaMapper

So, I've had a some people (family and friends) ask if there is a way for me to have real time GPS tracking using my Iphone as I do a coast to coast this summer so they can follow along. I found this app/site and it's free: http://www.instamapper.com/
From what I gather, someone like my mom can track me via a map I link to on my blog or she could have the app on her phone. I think that's how it works. If I'm wrong, please correct me. Anyway, has anyone used InstaMapper or something similar (preferably something free that doesn't use SMS) Btw, I don't think you can download or transfer raw data, but I may be wrong...

*I'm still not sure if I want to do this or not, but want to explore the options

Have been considering "Spot" for this use, but would love an iphone App instead. Looking forward to replies!

This guy: http://www.runxus.com/ will be using it when he runs  across the country this spring. Might be a good way to test it on the viewing/tracking end.

Check out TrackMyTour. It almost does what you want except it isn't a real-time tracker. The problem with a real-time tracker is that it sucks up battery power.

Here are some maps to give you an idea of what it looks like:

The Water Cycle - Two students cycling across the USA
Coast to Coast Run - Patrick's run across the USA
Bike Tour 2009 - My 2009 tour in northern Europe

The app is free for the first two maps.

That's cool. Can the maps be embedded into blogs or personal sites?

Yes. There's a link on each map to directly view in Google Maps. From there you can embed the map in your blog or website.
