Mine should be done this weekend. I'll be putting on the chain and running all cables and then it's done. Woohoo!

In 700c the 56cm I had rode like a tour bus, built a 26" wheeled version up and it's like a nimble tank. Prefer the nimble tank, much better for low and high speed handling

Lee, so was the improvement night and day and for the better (assuming a nimble tank is better than a tour bus). I had the 1st gen LHT and also sold it. Loved the way it handled (and the pea green color) but I didnt find it very efficient to pedal as compared to other touring bikes I have owned. I am looking for another 26" wheel tourer and really liking the specs of the LHT disc.

I do have a question for all of you trucker fans: Why doesn't Surly design their bikes with a sloping TT. I can think of so many reasons for and only one against. The only reason not to do it is a horizontal TT looks better and more classic. I have seen some well dressed LHTs on the forum that would even make a Riv owner look twice. You probably couldn't produce the same visual effect if it had a sloping TT.

Sloping TTs provide a stiffer frame, fit a wider range of riders in the same size and fit into a bike box better for travel especially in the larger sizes.

I think so, but with 1.75" tires it's not going to be a fast bike if that's the reason you sold the 700c version. I can ride the 26" version hands off better and for low speed handling up and down curb ramps I can pick a line better.

Well, it's finally done! I pieced all the parts together over the summer and finally ran the cables and chain last night with a bud of mine. Took it on a short 18 mile ride today and love it! It's heavy, it's slow, but it's smooth and I put it together. I can't wait to get my front rack and some panniers. Here's my Beast:

Front fender? Wet feet? Backwards? Something doesn't look right.

Love the bike though.

The Thomson setback seatpost is backwards too, unless you intended it that way.

Ordered mine on Saturday. 700Cx56". Bike shop is concerned about the stand-over height however, so we'll see. Apparently I have a weird body, because I'm 6' tall, but my inseam measurement was only about 30-31 inches.

Really hoping the 700C version fits me, I feel like I look silly on 26" bikes.

Build mine yesterday, 56cm with 26" wheels. Commuted to work today, what can i say "Steel is real". Today i will cut the forkheadtube and finetune the gearshifting. Really easy and smooth going - two thumbs up!
