It varies a good bit depending on who you rent from as well and when and where. We got a medium sized SUV from Enterprise($143.69) one way from Portland to Newport. It was big enough to haul the three of us and our three bikes and gear at under $50 per person. We were quoted from twice to three times that from other companies, the worst being uHaul. That was in 2007 though.

It seemed like the best way to go for us at the time and it was nice to have the car for the day to see Portland and the nearby area before starting our bike tour.

FREE hot showers? How did I miss those?!

Regarding car rental... check current rates for one-way as my inquiries in Summer 2009 were incredibly different rates than quoted above. I had a knee that was blowing out; I rested it a few days, cycled shorter distances and ended up with a one-way Rideshare via Craigslist (very popular in Oregon).

One way car rental prices can vary widely depending on company and location. That said I have gotten similar rates recently, but have not done so in the PNW. I'd advise checking all of the companies that you can find. Most charge a day as a 24 hour period so try to plan on getting the car back the next day by the time you picked it up.
